# Clean Up

> Remove filler words, stutters and false starts from your recordings without rewording what you said.

Clean Up removes filler words, stutters and false starts, and fixes
punctuation and grammar, without rewording what you said. Your
[Vocabulary](/vocabulary) words stay as written. It's on by default.

## On iPhone [#on-iphone]

Clean Up runs on your iPhone with Apple Intelligence, so it's offered only on
an iPhone that can run Apple Intelligence. Without it, recordings keep their
words as transcribed.

- **Clean Up Clips** cleans each new Clip before it's saved, so everywhere
your Clip goes, including your Mac's clipboard, gets only the cleaned
  words.
- **Clean Up Memos** cleans each new Memo just after it's saved, and its
summary is written from the cleaned words. It works on Memos you record on
your iPhone and on ones from your Sudo, Dex or Glyph.

To turn either off, open Profile → Dictation and find **Cleanup on this
iPhone**. The switches are set on each iPhone. If Clean Up can't finish, the
recording keeps its words as transcribed.

## In the browser [#in-the-browser]

**Clean up memos** cleans each Memo you record in that browser before it's
saved, so your iPhone and your workflows see only the cleaned words. To turn
it off, open **Dictation** in the sidebar and find **Clean up memos**. The
setting is kept in each browser. Italic doesn't clean Clips on the web.

## Get the original words back [#get-the-original-words-back]

A cleaned recording keeps the words as transcribed on the device that
cleaned it.

- **iPhone**: a cleaned recording's page says "Cleaned up on this iPhone"
  and offers **Restore original text**.
- **Web**: choose **Restore original text** from the Memo's **⋯** menu, in
the browser that recorded it. A Memo you moved to Clips or whose audio you
  deleted keeps it there too.

Restoring the original words is an edit, so it syncs to your other devices.
