Account
Sign in to Italic with Apple, Google or your email, set your name and photo, and manage your sign-ins.
One Italic account holds your recordings, chat, settings and devices. Sign in to it on the Italic app for iPhone, the web app and Italic for Mac, and each shows the same Home.
Italic offers three ways to sign in, on the web and on iPhone:
- Continue with Apple
- Continue with Google
- Your email: enter it, choose Email me a code, and enter the six-digit code from the email. The code expires in 10 minutes and works once. When you connect an assistant, or sign in to Italic for Mac in your browser, the page emails a sign-in link instead.
If you sign in with Apple or Google using the same email as your Italic account, you reach that same account. If you choose Apple's Hide My Email, Apple gives Italic a private address, and that makes a separate Italic account.
On iPhone, a new install opens on the sign-in screen (App 342 and later). To sign in later, open the Profile tab, tap the account row at the top, then Sign In. Italic for Mac and AI assistants sign in through your browser, on Italic's sign-in page. See Mac and AI assistants.
Your name and photo
Set a preferred name and a photo once, and every app shows them: the Profile tab on iPhone, the account row in the web app's sidebar, and Italic for Mac.
- Web: choose your name in the sidebar to open Profile, then choose Edit. Choose Upload photo (PNG, JPEG or WebP), and later Change photo or Remove photo.
- iPhone: open the Profile tab, tap the account row at the top, then tap the edit button at the top right. Tap Upload Photo, Change Photo or Remove Photo.
Without a photo, Italic shows the first letter of your name, or of your email. ChatGPT, Claude and other assistants never get your photo.
Staying signed in
- Browsers and iPhones stay signed in until they go 60 days without Italic. If Italic can't be reached for a moment, the web app says "Couldn't connect. Trying again…" and keeps you signed in.
- Italic for Mac, Claude, ChatGPT and other apps you connect keep access until you disconnect them. After an update that needs new permissions, Italic for Mac asks you to Sign In Again.
To end your other sign-ins, open Security in the web app and, under Sessions, choose Sign out other devices. On iPhone, it's Profile → Security → Sessions → Sign Out Other Devices…. Every other browser and iPhone is signed out; apps you connected keep access until you disconnect them.
Sign out
- Web: choose Sign out in your account menu, or on Security under Sessions. Signing out clears cached library and chat data and temporary account hints. If this browser has recorded audio, Italic asks whether to keep it for your next sign-in or remove it.
- iPhone: Profile → Security → Sessions, then Sign Out beside This iPhone. If something hasn't synced yet, Italic lists it and lets you keep it on your iPhone for when you sign in again, or delete it.
Delete your account
In the web app, open Profile and choose Delete account… under Account. On iPhone, open the Profile tab, tap the account row at the top, tap ⋯ at the top right and choose Delete Account…. Type DELETE to confirm.
Deleting your account deletes every synced recording and chat, your stats, profile and settings, and signs out every device. It also revokes Italic's Apple and Google sign-in. This can't be undone.
