Tasks

Tasks

Approve, edit or discard what Italic drafted, from any device. Nothing is sent or added until you approve it.

A task is something waiting for your approval. When Italic is about to send or create something for you, from Chat or a workflow, it first makes a draft. Nothing is sent or added until you approve it. Drafts and the questions Italic asks wait in Tasks, and a decision you make on one device counts everywhere.

SubjectRunning late

Hi Sam, I'm running about 15 minutes late. See you soon.

An example task, listed under the words that started it.

A workflow set to Run automatically doesn't make a task: it sends or adds right away. See How workflows run.

Everything waiting in one place

Open Tasks

In the web app or Italic for Mac, choose Tasks in the sidebar. On iPhone, open the Tasks tab.

Decide each draft

Each waiting draft and question is listed under the words that started it: the Clip's text, or what you asked in Chat. Approve, edit or discard it right there, or choose Show in chat to see it in the conversation.

Tasks on the web: approve a reminder, then edit an email before sending it.

On the web, in Italic for Mac and on iPhone, the bar at the bottom of Tasks is the same one as on Home and Chat: a question there opens Chat and asks it, and the mic speaks it.

The filters at the top choose what Tasks lists:

  • All: what's waiting first, then everything else Italic drafted or did, newest first, including what's still in progress and what failed.
  • Needs approval: only what's waiting.
  • Completed: what Italic finished.
  • Discarded: what you discarded, and questions you skipped.

The history goes back about a week and loads more as you scroll. In the web app and Italic for Mac, choose a row to open it in Chat as it was. On iPhone, tapping a row opens it to review. With nothing to list, each filter says so, such as Nothing waiting or Nothing discarded.

You'll see when something is waiting:

  • In the web app, Home shows a pill such as "1 question, 3 drafts", which opens Tasks, and the sidebar's Tasks item shows the count.
  • In Chat on the web, a bar above the message box says what's waiting, with Review, while no waiting card is on screen.
  • On iPhone, the Tasks tab's icon shows the count.

Keyboard shortcuts in the web app

With a draft card selected:

  • ↑ and ↓ move between drafts.
  • ⌘↵ (or Ctrl+Enter) approves.
  • E edits an email or event.
  • ⌫ (or Delete) discards.

One decision everywhere

The same draft shows as the same card on a recording's page, in Chat and in Tasks, on every device. Decide it once, anywhere, and it's decided everywhere:

  • Discard a workflow draft in the web app, and its iPhone notification disappears and its card on iPhone reads "Discarded".
  • Approve a draft from the Mac menu bar, and its card in the web app reads "Sent".

A draft can't be sent twice. If you change a draft, a device still showing the old version can't send that version.

You can also approve or discard what your workflows drafted from ChatGPT or Claude once you've connected them. See Assistants.
