App

What's new in the Italic app on iPhone, Mac and the web, and in the API, newest first.

New features and fixes across iPhone, Italic for Mac, the web app and the API. The newest changes come first. Device updates are on their own pages: Sudo, Glyph, Dex and FoloToy.

A date is the day a change was finished. Web changes, which Italic for Mac's window shows too, are live when they're listed. The rest of Mac and the iPhone app arrive with the next Mac release or TestFlight build.

November 5, 2026

Sign in first, then a shorter setup

  • On iPhone, a new install opens on the sign-in screen, with the ITALIC wordmark and "Intelligence in motion.". Sign in with Apple, Google or your email, and the introduction follows. In App 342, waiting for App Review.
  • The introduction no longer lists devices. Home shows an Add a device card instead, until your account has a device or you close the card, and Add opens the same list as Profile's Add device. Add Ring and Add Glyph show the device's picture, and Add Ring asks you to sign in first if you aren't. In App 342.
  • The introduction no longer has a "Where you recorded" step: iOS asks about location the first time you record. Allow Always… in Personalization goes straight to iOS's question. In App 341 and later.
  • The FoloToy Passport is left out of the introduction and Add device until Italic's installer for it is released. A Passport you've already paired keeps its page. In App 341 and later.

Chat replies finish when you leave the app

  • On iPhone, a Chat reply that's still being written keeps going for the short while iOS allows after you switch away from Italic, instead of stopping with "Italic couldn't finish that reply". In App 341 and later.

Chat bar, round two

  • On the web and in Italic for Mac, the bar at the bottom of Home, Chat, Tasks and every Clip or Memo page now sits in exactly the same place, so it no longer moves when you go from page to page. Home's Record button floats above the bar's right end instead of beside it.
  • At rest the bar is one line: Add, Ask Italic in the middle, and the mic as a plain icon on the right. Press the field and it opens to two rows: what you type on top, starting two lines tall and growing to about five, and Add, the chat model, the mic and the round Send below it. Left empty, it goes back to one line.
  • Scrolling the page or pressing outside the bar now lets go of the field, so the keyboard no longer gets stuck open on Home.
  • A Clip or Memo in the list opens as one row. Its device's name, such as Sudo, is no longer a separate link there; the device's link is on the recording's page.
  • A Clip or Memo page has the same bar as everywhere else, with Add: a photo goes to Chat with the recording attached.
  • The iPhone gets the same bar in App 342, waiting for App Review. Its mic puts what you say in the field for you to send.

Record from a widget

  • On iPhone, three widgets start a recording from your Home Screen or Lock Screen: Record Memo, Record Clip, and Record, the wide one, with a button for each. A tap opens Italic and starts recording. They work on iPad too. In App 340 on TestFlight, in beta review. See Widgets.

Sign-in and sign-out security

  • Email sign-in links now use random letters and numbers. Signing out of the web app clears temporary connector and account hints as well as its cached library and chats.
  • The dedicated app-review account accepts only its salted password verifier. Unexpected API failures return a generic error without private details.

November 4, 2026

Removing Sudo says what it does

  • On iPhone, Remove Ring no longer says it unpairs Sudo: no phone can make Sudo forget it. Italic disconnects Sudo and removes it from the iPhone and your account, and Sudo remembers the iPhone until another phone pairs with it on its charger. In App 339 on TestFlight, in beta review.

Removed devices on a page of their own

  • Devices you removed from your account no longer list at the bottom of Devices. One Removed devices row, with how many there are, opens a page that lists them, on the web and the Mac now, and on iPhone in App 339 on TestFlight, in beta review. The row shows only once you've removed a device. Open one there to save it to your account again.

Add a Ring that was used with another phone

  • On iPhone, when a Ring you're adding doesn't answer, its page now says it's probably still paired with another phone and asks you to open its pairing window, then tap Finish pairing within 2 minutes. These tries no longer use up your pairing attempts. Before, two of them stopped pairing with "paused after its safety limit".
  • Cancel pairing on a Ring that didn't finish pairing clears it from this iPhone, so you can add it again. Before, only deleting the app did.
  • A Ring that hasn't finished pairing shows "Recordings stay on your Ring until it pairs with this iPhone" instead of a sync error with Retry sync. In App 338 on TestFlight.

Update Glyph over Wi-Fi

  • On iPhone, Glyph's firmware page now gets the newest update for your Glyph and tells Glyph about it, so it shows in Glyph's About. This needs Glyph 1.0.50 or later.
  • With Glyph 1.0.56 or later, Update over Wi-Fi sends the update straight from your iPhone, over its Personal Hotspot. Turn on Personal Hotspot with Maximize Compatibility, then type the hotspot's name and password. Glyph joins your iPhone's hotspot and downloads the update. The page shows how far it's got, and Glyph offers Install when it's done. Keep Italic open while it downloads.
  • Italic encrypts the hotspot's name and password for each update, and sends them only to Glyph. Neither Italic nor Glyph keeps them.
  • iOS asks once to let Italic use your local network. Italic needs this to send the update to Glyph. In App 340 and later.

Chat answers what you just said

  • Chat now answers your latest message. Before, a question that had failed earlier could come back with every new message, so a "Hi" took long and got a long answer to the old question.
  • A greeting or thanks gets a short reply without searching your recordings.
  • Within one reply, Italic no longer reads the same Memo or runs the same search twice, and shortens what it read earlier once it has read a lot, so long answers come back sooner.
  • A reply goes on when you leave the app or close the window mid-answer, for a short while, so it's more often there when you come back.
  • Ask Italic to remember something, such as "remember that my sister is Anna", and it saves it in Memories.

Memories, and a chat that remembers the whole conversation

  • Personalization → Memories on the web and the Mac lists what Italic keeps about you, newest first. Edit or delete each memory, add your own, or Delete all memories. On iPhone, Profile → Personalization → Memories, in App 335 and later.
  • With Learn from chats on, as it is at first, Italic saves lasting things you tell it in chat, such as who someone is or how you like things done. Turn it off and Italic saves only what you ask it to remember. Every chat reads your Memories.
  • Chat now reads your whole conversation instead of only its last 12 messages: as much as the model can take word for word, and a summary of what's older. Long messages are no longer cut to 4,000 characters.
  • A reply keeps going when you leave the app or close the window, for as long as it takes, and one that stops partway says it was interrupted.

Bold, italic and code in chat

  • On the web and in Italic for Mac, what a reply puts in code now stays exactly as written, so a pattern like src/**/*.ts is no longer turned into bold or italic. ***Both*** closes in the right order, and a lone star in arithmetic, such as 5 * 3, stays a star. Memo summaries follow the same rules.
  • On iPhone, a Chat reply that has a link in it, such as a citation of a Clip or Memo, now shows its bold and italic instead of the stars. Bold around code or a link works, and italic is slanted. In App 340 and later.

Chat bar

  • On the web and in Italic for Mac, the bar at the bottom of Home, Chat and Tasks is now the same bar everywhere: Add for a photo, the message field, the chat model and one round button. Tasks had no bar before. A Clip or Memo's page has it too, and asks in Chat.
  • The round button is a mic while the field is empty, so it's never greyed out. Tap it, speak, and tap the stop square. Italic transcribes what you said as it does a Clip, in your language and with your Vocabulary, and puts the words in the field to read and change before you send. Nothing is saved as a recording. It listens for up to 5 minutes, and ✕ or Esc cancels. Your browser or Mac asks to use the microphone the first time, and speaking counts toward your daily limit like a recording.
  • The mic becomes Send when you type, attach a photo or press the field (not Add or the mic), and Stop while a reply comes in.
  • On Home and Tasks, Add takes the photo to Chat, where it waits in the message box with what you typed. Home's Record button is now a waveform, beside the bar, so it isn't mistaken for the mic.
  • On iPhone, Home, Chat and Tasks have the same bar and mic. Your iPhone transcribes what you said with the Record tab's speech model, and ✕ cancels. A Clip or Memo's page on iPhone keeps its message box without the mic. In App 332 and later.
  • The button that hides and shows the sidebar now stays in one place, so if you click it by mistake, click again without moving the pointer. On the web it's at the top left, before the Italic wordmark. In Italic for Mac it's just after the window's red, yellow and green buttons.

Notifications

  • Settings has a Notifications page of its own, after Personalization. On the web and Mac it holds your Daily recap, and in Italic for Mac its banners for new Clips and Memos and for workflow drafts too. Links to the recap's old place on Personalization open it there.
  • On iPhone, Profile → Notifications holds the switches that were in Personalization (new clips and memos, workflow actions, Live Activities and low Ring battery) and the daily recap. In App 331 and later.
  • Approve and Discard on a workflow draft's notification or Live Activity now appear only when your version of Italic can show the draft. On builds before App 321, only emails, calendar events, reminders and webhooks have them: tap any other draft to review it in Italic.

App 336 on TestFlight

  • App 336 for iPhone went to the public beta on TestFlight. It's waiting for Apple's beta review, and you can install it once Apple approves it.
  • It brings everything in App 335, and the Delete All Memories question now opens next to its button.

App 335 on TestFlight

  • App 335 for iPhone went to the public beta on TestFlight. It's waiting for Apple's beta review, and you can install it once Apple approves it.
  • It brings Memories in Profile → Personalization: the list of what Italic keeps about you, with Learn from chats, editing, deleting and Delete All Memories.

App 332 on TestFlight

  • App 332 for iPhone went to the public beta on TestFlight. It's waiting for Apple's beta review, and you can install it once Apple approves it.
  • It brings the chat bar with the mic on Home, Chat and Tasks, the Notifications page in Profile, and speakers in Memos: each turn labeled Speaker 1, Speaker 2 and so on, with the labels in a heavier weight.

November 3, 2026

Transcripts

  • On the web and Mac, each speaker's label in a transcript, such as Me: in a meeting from Granola, now stands out in a heavier weight. On iPhone, Memo transcripts with speakers show their labels the same way, in App 332 and later.

November 2, 2026

Reminders that run on their own

  • When a workflow step that adds an Apple Reminder is set to Run automatically, Italic now wakes your iPhone to add it, so you no longer have to open Italic. Its Lock Screen activity reads "Adding the reminder…" instead of asking you to open Italic. If your iPhone is locked, it says the reminder goes in when you unlock it. "Open Italic to add it" now appears only when the iPhone couldn't add it, for example without Reminders access. In App 326 and later.
  • With earlier iPhone builds, the activity says "Adding the reminder…" for up to 15 minutes, then asks you to open Italic, as before.

Memos

  • On iPhone, a Memo with more than one voice now shows who's speaking: each turn starts on a new line with Speaker 1, Speaker 2 and so on. Your iPhone tells the voices apart itself, and a Memo with one voice looks as before. Transcribe again adds speakers to an earlier Memo whose audio is on your iPhone. In App 332 and later. See Transcription.

Devices

  • On the web and Mac, a device on one of your iPhones shows that iPhone with a phone icon, in its row on Devices and under its name on its page, such as "On iPhone Air · 2 min ago". Before, only the page's Details named it.
  • On iPhone, a Passport, Glyph or Dex on your other iPhone now shows the phone icon too, not just Sudo. In App 324 and later.
  • Disconnect on a Passport, Glyph or Dex now lasts on that iPhone until you choose Reconnect there, as it already did for Sudo. Before, Italic forgot it when it restarted or updated, so that iPhone could take the device back from your other one. In App 328 and later.
  • An iPhone Duo is named "iPhone Duo" where a device shows which iPhone it's on, not "iPhone19,4". In App 328 and later.

Passport

  • A FoloToy Passport's page on the web and Mac now has Hold B and Tap B under Recording type, as on iPhone, so you can choose Clip or Memo for each.
  • Device settings in the API now return a Passport's recordButton, for tap B, beside pushToTalk.
  • A Passport Clip that ends after your iPhone has locked is saved. Before, it could be lost. In App 322 and later.
  • Italic tells the Passport whether each Clip or Memo was saved, and the Passport shows it under its clock. In App 323 and later, with Passport 1.6.4.
  • A Passport Clip that stops early, or whose Bluetooth link drops partway, keeps what was recorded. Before, it waited on the Passport's page for Save or Discard and was lost if you left the page. The Passport stays connected for the next recording. In App 326 and later.
  • After a dropped link, the Passport shows that the Clip was saved once it reconnects, within 30 seconds, instead of "Disconnected". In App 326 and later.

App 327 on TestFlight

  • App 327 for iPhone went to the public beta on TestFlight. Apple has approved it, and you can install it now.
  • It brings the reminders that run on their own without opening Italic, the Passport fixes above, and the phone icon for devices on your other iPhone.

App 321 on TestFlight

  • App 321 for iPhone went to the public beta on TestFlight. Apple has approved it, and you can install it now.
  • It brings every iPhone change on this page from October 26 on, including editing a Memo right on its page, the Ask anything bar, the Tasks and Profile tabs, answering "Which Rory?" however you spell it, Move to another iPhone for Sudo, and the side tabs on iPhone Duo.

November 1, 2026

Audio on the web and Mac

  • A recording that didn't finish no longer waits inside the recorder. Home shows a pill such as "2 recordings to review". Open it to play each one, Retry it, Export audio or delete it, or use Retry all and Clear all. Clear all asks first.
  • When a recording fails, Keep for later saves it for Home, and you can start a new recording right away.
  • Transcribe again on a Memo's page makes new words from the audio in that browser or on that Mac. It asks first, and counts toward your daily limit. The title and summary stay.
  • Delete audio on a Memo's page removes the audio and keeps the text.
  • Keep recordings under Dictation chooses how long Memo audio stays: 7 days, 30 days, 90 days or Forever, the default. It's set in each browser and on each Mac, and it never touches a recording that hasn't finished saving.
  • A Memo that stopped at the recording limit keeps saying it may be incomplete after you reload.
  • A Memo you moved to Clips can still Restore original text in that browser. Moving a Memo to Clips on another device now removes its audio here too.

Working offline on the web and Mac

  • If Italic can't be reached, edits and deletes are saved in your browser, or on your Mac in its window, and sync when you're back online. They survive a reload or closing the page, and Home says what's waiting.
  • If the recording changed on another device in the meantime, Review changes shows both versions, as on iPhone: keep yours, use the one in your account, or save a copy first. Nothing replaces the newer version until you choose.
  • A deleted Memo's audio stays in your browser until your account has taken the delete.
  • Signing out warns you if it would lose changes that haven't synced.
  • The Mac's offline page is still read-only, and shows the last version your account has.

First run on the web

  • New to Italic in a browser? A short guide explains Clips and Memos and starts your first Memo. It appears once, only while your library is empty. Italic for Mac keeps its own guide.

Memos and Chat on iPhone

  • Edit a Memo's title, summary and transcript right on its page. Changes save as you type, as on the web.
  • An Ask anything bar on Home sends your question to Chat.
  • Choose who answers from a recording's page, beside Send. It's the same choice Chat uses.
  • Chat says what's waiting for you when those cards are out of view, with Review to open Tasks.
  • Approving a draft, answering a question or a long Chat reply no longer stops at 150 seconds. If the connection drops, nothing is sent twice, and Italic says it may still be working rather than that it failed.

Devices and account on iPhone

  • A device saved to your account but not connected to this iPhone shows its recordings, first and latest dates, and Recording type, as on the web and Mac. The Passport's Recording type shows before it's paired with this iPhone too.
  • Devices you've removed are listed under Removed from your account. Open one and tap Save to account again.
  • Glyph's page explains that its buttons set each recording's type, and its update steps use Italic for Mac.
  • About → Account Sync Log shows what your signed-in devices have synced, with Refresh, Copy and Clear.
  • About → Get Italic for Mac lets you send yourself the download link.
  • Tap a day in your activity calendar, or a point on the Words chart, to see that day's words.

Drafts and workflows on the web and Mac

  • Edit on a reminder draft changes its title, notes, list and due date before you approve it.
  • An email draft shows Bcc, along with To and Cc.
  • Show all on a custom connector's call shows every argument in full, however long. A connector's answer has its own Show all, and says so if the connector sent more than Italic keeps.
  • A workflow's Create reminder action picks from your Reminders lists instead of asking you to type a name. You can still type one until your iPhone or Mac has reported its lists.
  • If you left a workflow with unsaved edits and it changed on another device in the meantime, coming back offers Reload or overwrite instead of quietly replacing that version.
  • A failed agent step says "Couldn't run the agent" instead of "Couldn't add it". An Eight Sleep change no longer reads "Added" or "Action". On the Mac menu, it and a Trash draft are named for what they are after the next Mac release.

Closer to iPhone on the web and Mac

  • Sign in with a six-digit code from your email, as on iPhone. The code can't be used up by anything that previews links in your inbox, and it works when your email is on another device. Connecting an assistant or signing in to Italic for Mac in your browser still emails a link.
  • Search has a filter button for kind, date and device, and starts with the filter you chose on Home. If nothing matches, Search all recordings clears it.
  • A Clip's row shows its word count, and a Memo's page shows its word count under the title. A Memo recorded in that browser or on that Mac shows its length on its row.
  • Download transcript in a Memo's Share menu saves just the transcript as a text file.
  • When you fix a misheard word in a transcript, Vocabulary suggests it, to add or dismiss.
  • If a question in Chat didn't get its reply, Retry is still there after you reload or come back, and sends the same question without starting it twice.
  • Contact support is in Profile, under Account.
  • Apple Reminders is listed in Connectors and found by search, with its permission and your default list.

Devices

  • A FoloToy Passport's page has Push to talk, to choose Clip or Memo. A Glyph's page shows only the setting that still applies, as it does on iPhone.
  • Device settings in the API now return a Passport's pushToTalk.
  • A device's page on the web says what's really done where: Glyph updates through Italic for Mac, and a Passport's firmware installs from a computer.
  • Under Details, a device's page on the web shows which iPhone last reported it, such as "On iPhone Duo · 1 min ago".

Notifications on Mac

  • Workflow drafts waiting for you under Notifications turns off a draft's banner. It arrives with the next Mac release.

Finished actions on iPhone

  • Finished actions have View and Hide. A custom connector's result shows under View, a workflow's agent shows its whole reply, and a sent Slack message has Open in Slack.
  • Send in a draft's Edit sheet now waits five seconds with Undo.
  • A Clip or Memo whose run failed or was cancelled says so in Chat.
  • If this version of Italic can't show a draft, Approve on a notification or Live Activity asks you to open Italic instead.

Connectors on iPhone

  • For accounts it's open to, Eight Sleep has its own page in Connectors: connect your account, see what Italic can do, and choose whether it changes your bed without asking. Bed changes wait for your approval in Chat and Tasks.
  • Gmail, Outlook, your calendars, Slack, Apple Reminders and Eight Sleep show recent activity on their pages.
  • Custom connectors and Granola list the workflows that use them.
  • Choose which models appear in chat, in Personalization. Turning off the model you've selected goes back to Auto.

Reading before you approve on iPhone

  • Long drafts in Chat, Tasks and on Clip and Memo pages have Show all, so you can read the whole thing before you approve it. A custom connector's call lists every argument in full.
  • Draft cards also show Cc and Bcc, when an event ends, and a webhook's message.
  • An action this version of Italic doesn't recognize no longer reads as a calendar event. It asks you to update Italic, and you can only discard it until you do.

Fewer surprises on iPhone

  • Choosing Allow without asking for Gmail, Outlook, your calendars, Apple Reminders, Notion, Google Drive or Slack asks you to confirm first, as on the web and Mac.
  • Regenerate summary asks "Replace your notes?" before writing over a Memo's notes. A Memo with no summary still gets one right away.

Workflow builder on iPhone

  • If a workflow changed on another device, saving your edits offers Reload or Overwrite instead of replacing that version.
  • The builder asks before discarding unsaved changes, and brings them back if the app closes.
  • When something stops a workflow action, tap it to open the app's page and fix it.

Tasks and Send to Chat on the web and Mac

  • Tasks has the same filters as iPhone at the top: All, Needs approval, Completed and Discarded.
  • The history now goes back the whole week instead of your last 8 decisions, and loads more as you scroll. Discarded includes questions you skipped, and All also shows what's still in progress or failed.
  • A Clip or Memo's ⋯ menu in the list has Send to Chat, which opens Chat with it attached, ready for your question.

Chat replies appear as they're written on the web and Mac

  • In Chat on the web and in Italic for Mac, a reply's words now appear as Italic writes them, as on iPhone. Questions sent from a Clip or Memo's page go to Chat and appear the same way.
  • Stop now keeps what Italic has written so far, in the conversation and on your other devices.
  • If the connection drops during a reply, Italic looks for the finished reply without starting your question again. If the reply didn't finish, you get Retry, which also won't start it twice.

Recording on the web and Mac

  • You can save a recording as a Clip as well as a Memo. Choose Save as Clip or Save as Memo when you finish, as on iPhone. A Clip keeps only your words: its audio is deleted once they are saved.
  • Pause and Resume while you record. The time and the audio leave out the pause.
  • A recording can be up to 15 minutes. The recorder now says so before you start, shows the time as "3:12 of 15:00", and warns you for the last two minutes. If a recording reaches the limit, it stops and saves, and its page says so.

Safer edits and deletes on the web and Mac

  • Clearing a recording's title or a Clip's words no longer saves them empty. When you leave the field, what was there comes back, as on iPhone.
  • Deleting a recording, on any device, now removes its audio from this browser or Mac too. Audio left behind by earlier deletes is cleared as well.

Italic for Mac 0.4.2

  • With Glyph plugged in by USB, Italic for Mac can install a Glyph update when one is on offer. The first time, macOS asks to let Italic read Glyph's disk.
  • When the window can't sign in, it says Couldn't connect with Try Again, without the technical error.
  • The saved recordings page says You're offline only when your Mac is. If your Mac is online but Italic can't be reached, it says Couldn't connect.
  • Restart to update appears once the update can really install, and stays there if you check for updates again.

Answering "Which person?"

  • Typing a name under a question like "Which Rory?" now works however you spell it: "rory oreilly" finds Rory O'Reilly. If several people match, Italic asks you to pick one instead of saying "Type an email address."
  • Anything else you type there goes to Chat, where Italic can look the person up or answer your question about them.
  • On iPhone, this arrives with App 321, now on TestFlight.

Updating Italic for Mac

  • On Italic for Mac 0.4.0, Restart to update said "Restarting…" and then nothing happened. That version now says Quit Italic to update. Quit Italic, open it again, and you're on the latest version.
  • On 0.4.1 and later, if a restart doesn't happen, the button changes to Quit Italic to update. You can also click it to try again.

October 30, 2026

Moving a Sudo to another iPhone

  • A connected Sudo's page has Move to another iPhone. It opens Sudo's pairing window with a 2-minute countdown and says what to do on each iPhone.
  • A Sudo that isn't connected and answering shows Use on this iPhone under its status. One tap takes you to pairing or connecting, with no need to force quit Italic.
  • Until Sudo answers, its status says Connecting rather than Connected, and Italic doesn't say "Sync needs attention" about it.
  • On Sudo 1.0.133 or later, pairing asks you only to put Sudo on its charger, or to lift it off and put it back. The 15-second hold appears after a minute, for older firmware.
  • When Sudo first answers a new iPhone, Italic removes its pairing with your other iPhones. An iPhone that no longer has it shows where it is, such as "On iPhone Duo", and stops trying to connect.
  • Paired phones moved from Ring diagnostics to Details on Sudo's page. Recording Status on device pages is now Status, with Reconnect under it.

Workflows on more than one iPhone

  • A run that ends is sent to your iPhones a couple more times over the next few minutes, so a Live Activity that missed its ending can still get it. Italic also checks open Live Activities whenever it runs, including in the background.
  • A Live Activity that hasn't heard how a run went now says Open Italic and "This iPhone hasn't heard how it went", in place of "Out of date" and an old "Sending…".
  • A Live Activity keeps the same background in every status.
  • Approving or discarding a draft already decided on another device now shows how it went, instead of an error.

Devices on iPhone

  • Find works on every device that connects over Bluetooth. It pulses and says Warmer or Colder, and shows the signal strength.
  • A custom device gets Find too, once you choose its Bluetooth signal on its page. See Custom devices.
  • Recordings on device on Dex and Glyph, and Start recording on Dex, have icons beside them, as on Sudo.

Glyph on iPhone

  • Italic on iPhone no longer offers Glyph updates over Bluetooth. Glyph updates by USB cable through Italic for Mac.
  • Live words should keep going with Italic in the background, with Glyph 1.0.45 or later. We haven't confirmed this on a Glyph yet.

iPhone Duo

  • On iPhone Duo, the tabs and Record run down the side where the system puts its own bars. Other iPhones are unchanged.

Plainer error pages

  • When a page on the web or in Italic for Mac's window can't be shown, it says "Something went wrong" with Try again, without the technical error underneath.
  • While Italic can't reach your account, it says "Couldn't connect. Trying again…". A shared link that can't load asks you to check your connection.

Skipped questions on Clip and Memo pages

  • When a workflow asked a question and it was skipped, the Clip or Memo's page on the web, Mac and iPhone now names the workflow and shows the question, marked Skipped. It used to say Italic didn't find a request to draft.

Faster screens on the web and Mac

  • Going back to Home, Tasks, Connectors, Workflows or Devices shows what was there right away and updates it in the background, instead of a spinner first.
  • Opening a Clip or Memo from Home no longer waits for a sync.
  • Home draws a long library in smaller steps, and Back from a Clip or Memo returns to the same place in the list, even far down.
  • The first visit to a page is quicker too: Italic fetches the sidebar's pages while it's idle, unless your connection is set to save data.
  • With the sidebar hidden, its button is larger and in a ring at the top left. In Italic for Mac it sits under the window's traffic lights, and pages start below it.

Longer questions in Chat

  • A question that takes many searches no longer ends in "Italic couldn't finish that." Chat keeps looking for as long as it needs, then answers from what it found and says what it couldn't find.

October 29, 2026

Reviewer sign-in security

  • Improved password protection for the dedicated app-review account.

AI request privacy

  • AI requests through Cloudflare Gateway no longer store prompt or response bodies in gateway logs or its response cache. Usage metadata remains available. This does not change each AI provider’s own retention practices.

Google Drive permissions and security

  • The Google Drive page describes its permissions accurately: Italic can find and read your files and create new Docs. It cannot edit, move or delete existing files.
  • Security updates for the web app and API.

Connected applications in Security

  • On the web, in Italic for Mac and on iPhone, Connected applications moved from Developers to Security, after Sessions. It lists the apps you signed in with your Italic account, such as Italic for Mac and MCP clients, each with Revoke access. Developers keeps your API keys and MCP.
  • On iPhone, Security and a few sheets in Settings use the same cream background as the other pages.

Sudo on iPhone

  • If your Sudo is paired with another iPhone, Italic stops retrying it and shows the steps to pair it with this one, instead of saying "Connected" while nothing syncs. To open its pairing window, put it on its charger and hold its touch surface for 15 seconds, then finish pairing within 2 minutes.

Custom devices

  • Devices has three sections on the web, in Italic for Mac and on iPhone: Italic for our hardware, Custom for a device you connect yourself, and External for other makers' hardware that runs firmware from Italic. See Custom devices.
  • A custom device gets an ID, and a recording names it with deviceId. In the API, POST /devices adds one, and POST /recordings files a recording under it. See Recordings.

Recordings on iPhone

  • The iPhone transcribes up to three recordings at once, and each one is filed as soon as its words are ready. A Clip no longer waits behind a long Memo or a recording with no speech. Memos take at most two of the three.
  • Tapping a Clip or Memo opens its page. To put a Clip in Chat, press and hold it and choose Send to Chat, or swipe it and choose Send to Chat.
  • A Clip's page shows the workflow it ran and the Chat about it: its questions, drafts, receipts and Open workflow. Show in chat opens the same Chat at that message.
  • A Sudo whose link drops while it's connecting reconnects instead of staying "Connected" with nothing syncing. Pulling to refresh or Sync reconnects every saved Sudo.
  • A custom connector with no logo shows in the Connectors grid, as on the web and Mac.

Tasks on the web

  • A task's heading, such as "Clip · 12:19 PM", opens its Clip. Skip is a pill, and Show in chat sits at the right end of a question's buttons.

Workflows from Chat

  • Ask Chat for a workflow and it drafts one for you, with Create to turn it on and Edit to open it in the builder. Nothing is created until you choose Create.
  • Works on iPhone, Mac and the web.
  • Workflows remember when you let them run without asking. Home marks them Auto-run or Discarded, and shows each workflow's name and where it stands.

A new Tasks tab

  • On the web and Mac, Tasks is a tab beside Chat, with Search under Home and roomier rows.
  • Each run on the web is one card, with Open memo for a memo.
  • On iPhone, the tab bar is Home, Chat, Tasks and Profile, with Search at the top right of Home. Search's close button returns to Home.

Connectors as an app grid

  • Connectors shows the apps Italic can use as a grid on the web, Mac and iPhone.

One set of icons

  • Home, Chat and Tasks use the same icons on every device, filled when you're on that page.
  • Workflows use one bolt icon, filled on Home's rows.
  • On the web and Mac, the sidebar hides as you'd expect, with its button at the top right. On the Mac, the button takes clicks again.

Ring battery

  • The iPhone app's Ring battery level is steadier. It moves a point at a time and rises while the Ring charges.
  • A reading lower than anything the Ring's load explains brings the level down at once.
  • A long Ring memo keeps transcribing, and cleans up its Ring, while Italic is in the background. An additional Ring reconnects in the background too.

Italic for Mac

  • Restart to update installs a downloaded update in one click.
  • The release takes italic:// links back to the app.
  • A Copy in the window shows the menu bar's checkmark again.

Wording and settings

  • Clip, Memo or recording: each place uses the right word across iPhone, Mac and the web.
  • On iPhone, General is now Personalization, and Security sits under Workflows.
  • API key permissions on iPhone use the web's plain-word labels, with Select all.

Devices you're signed in on

  • Security lists every device signed in to your account, and you can sign out one device from the web, Mac or iPhone.

Workflows start sooner

  • A recording's workflows start when it lands, not at the next hourly check.
  • Recordings routed to a workflow that failed to start now run again.

Fixes

  • On the web and Mac, a row's … menu opens upward when there's no room below it.
  • Tasks belongs to Chat and slides the chat over, open by default.
  • On iPhone, Italic asks for location Always during setup, with the reason.
